I love short stories, ( Hey they are short and they get straight to the point) I can read them when I’m pressed for time and I can get the whole moral of the story without having to wait a long time. I want to share with you a little gem I came across recently, let’s wake up the mind a little.

The Elephant Rope

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp and he spotted that the elephants weren’t being kept in cages or held by the use of chains. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.

As the man gazed, upon the elephant, he was completely confused as to why the elephants didn’t just use their strength to break the rope and escape. They could easily have done so, but instead they didn’t try at all.

Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked the trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.

The trainer replied: when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them, and at that age, itโ€™s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.

The only reason why the elephants were not breaking free and escaping from the camp was that over time, they adopted the belief that it was impossible .

Moral

This is what happens when you think in a box, when you do not allow yourself to get outside of your comfort zone. Imagine how strong a elephant is, they could just simply lift their leg and escape. Picture yourself as the elephants, with all that strength and all that potential but because you limit yourself to just what you know or what you have conditioned yourself to know you end up missing out on all the possibilities. Always push yourself beyond the boundaries, don’t let feeble fears and excuses hold you down in one spot.

    1. Food for thought indeed……………the mind is a powerful tool, if we tell ourselves we canโ€™t then we wonโ€™t, if we tell ourselves we can, then the possibilities are endless. Thank you ๐Ÿ™ for reading
